Company
Microsoft is an American multinational technology corporation which produces computer software, consumer electronics, personal computers, and related services headquartered at the Microsoft Redmond campus located in Redmond, Washington, United States.

Challenge
Viva products are a suite of software which leverage artificial intelligence capabilities within the broader range of Microsoft products. One of the products, Viva Topics, automatically organizes content and expertise across organizations, making it easy for people to find information and put knowledge to work. Since the intelligence system does not work through human input, the challenge is to keep the bot running without human intervention. The goal is to integrate Service Now files and other non Microsoft knowledge bases into Sharepoint so that the user can access non Microsoft files and media that are related to Microsoft generated topics.
Process
We started out with competitive and comparative research by finding which features are featured in similar products. We focused on how sites consume data from external sources on a single topic. What pieces of information were available and why? What types of user filters were available. What meta data was displayed. With this knowledge in hand, we designed several possible solutions.
Outcome
We delivered designs that utilized the existing components but focused on making the solution scalable in anticipation of more connector files to be available in the near future. We found that users wanted the list views, the icons called out, and relevant usability metrics surfaced. Our stakeholders wanted the feature delivered as soon as possible so we had to reuse as many of the existing components as possible making only the minorest of modifications. We anticipate adding more user based filters and customizations of the view in the next iteration.
